Yellow and Black Photography Quote (1).p

“The artwork of Katy Bishop communicates emotions, feelings, and ideas that cannot easily be expressed well in words.”

With the use of rhythmic flow, Katy is able to delve into life’s separations, creating a form of impressionistic linear concept that is both stunning and emotionally satisfying. Even her more serene pieces give one a sense of urgency that is highly stimulating and thought provoking.

I've never seen the Northern Lights, but this is what I feel they will make me feel.
NORTHERN LIGHTS, has been selected by the Los Angeles Art Association for their juried exhibition, GLEAMING APOLLO 2022.

As Katy explores both the geometric and realistic use of light and shade through color and movement, we recognize that the control we all want to exert on our lives is often paired with uncontrollable growth and change.

Boundaries can be artificial. They can be thoughtfully chosen. Where are your boundaries? Are they chosen?

Katy has found that as she addresses each canvas before her, she is met with a newfound inner awareness about her life experiences, her dreams, and her memories. This has provided her with a deeper understanding of the emotions and impact these events have had within her.

“She produced some independent feature films, directed a TV series, and produced hundreds of national TV commercials.”

As she adds each new color to the movement before her, to those memories, to those dreams, and to those life experiences, she finds a new reality emerge. One that is inspired by a greater sense of freedom and joy, and it is that, which the artist, Katy Bishop, is driven to share.

“Perhaps my artworks can be described as deep and transparent, controlled and uncontrolled.”

Early art education at Chicago's Art Institute on a high school scholarship began her pathway to use the arts to enhance other's lives and her own. At the Art Institute, she worked in oil, pastels, watercolor and charcoal.

“Design created by color, texture and movement are the keys to her self-expression, and alcohol inks and acrylics are the perfect tools, offering a both beautiful palate and a sense of flow allowing her to create with total abandon.”

Sometimes it feels like your ideas are blocked. Then it is such a joyous feeling when you see that finally you are breaking thru.
BREAKING THRU has been selected as as part of the Los Angeles Art Association new exhibit, Factory Fresh 2022.

After college graduation, she became part of creative teams, producing film for many years. She found these years to be quite rewarding creatively and received some major TV commercial awards.

The languid lagoon has many colors. Like life, it reflects the color of what is around it.

She also explored other creative outlets – directing theater, acting, ceramics, jewelry design, photography, and script writing. She won the Houston Festival award for a children’s feature film script. But none totally satisfied her creative needs.

It's a great adventure every day, exploring, exploring, exploring.

Katy had been working with acrylics and had ventured into encaustics. When a friend introduced her to alcohol inks, she found her expressive medium. Alcohol inks can be deep or transparent, they can be controlled and totally uncontrolled.

Sometimes an image comes to you and you simply paint it.

“Katy realized that abstract painting gives her the ability to create an emotional and physical artwork that someone else can repeatedly enjoy.”

Leaves in the pond, lit as if from inside....lit simply by the sun.

In 2021, Katy finally began showing her artworks publicly. Since then, The Los Angeles Art Association and the California Art League have included her as a member. In the past year, her work has been honored with 11 juried on-line gallery exhibitions. She also has had 3 in-person gallery exhibitions in Southern California, all in her first public year.

We are all different, and yet the same....just as these colors are different, but all are acrylic paint. Obvious, isn't it?

Her artworks are in private collections from New York to California. Recently one collector commissioned 30 artworks to enhance the public areas of two of his apartment buildings.

You lay on the ground and the fireworks explode over your head. What a wonderful view of the world!

“Katy’s artworks have the extraordinary ability to bring clarity which is often considered abstract and previously beyond comprehension.”
