Lim

MALAYSIA

Yellow and Black Photography Quote (1).p

“Adding flow lines to my paintings give a softening effect to whatever I draw.”

The element of FLOW LINES is a significant feature in all of Lim’s paintings. The flow lines that run through her paintings are to create visual pathways for the eye to follow from one part of her composition to another in the direction she wants it to move. With flow, there is always movement. As the line flows, she tries to create different forms, shapes; patterns and rhythm as she paints to increase the visual momentum of her artwork. These lines create different emotions in her artwork. Thick and rough lines create a more dramatic tone whereas thin and smooth lines show gentleness, grace and elegance. To her, a work without flow lines is monotonous and lifeless.

This painting depicts our journey through life. Along the way we meet with triumph and failures.
Take failures as challenges, triumphs as encouragements and persevere through life with ease.
The flow lines in my painting demonstrate movement and progress. As it flows, it develops into uneven
forms, shapes and patterns. These are ups and downs in life. Space is created to show the freedom to move
Bright colors signify hope and success. Darker tones are setbacks in life.

Each flow line in her painting tells a story. Drawn with intention, each twist and turn will lead to a certain direction. This is to tell her viewers that the flow line we choose to follow always ends with a mission. Either we achieve the aim we want or we let it continue until it meets its fate. To her, the flow lines in her paintings are like our journey through Life. Life ahead is unpredictable, a mystery and when one sails through, one meets challenges. We have the option to maneuver our way through and let it flow in a positive direction.

This painting captures the gradual growth of a flower. After months of hard work, struggle and resilience, it gradually blooms. Our journey through life is comparable to that of a flower. The world is a harsh place with bitter conditions and nasty forces of nature that will try to hinder our growth?.To flourish, we have to persevere and seek the right path. I use bright vibrant colors to show hope and success. Darker colors signify the hurdles of growth. Flow lines show gentle movement

TEXTURES are important and by using them, they evoke different atmospheres and emotions to certain aspects of my composition. The rough surfaces show toughness and hardships while smooth gentle textures show gentleness and grace.

“I love to use bright and vibrant COLORS in my paintings. Such colors add so much energy, jest and life to my paintings.”

SPACE is another typical feature in her artwork. The open space that surrounds an object is important to her as it gives some breathing room to prevent her painting from being too crowded. She tries to create a good balance between the negative and positive spaces in her art so as to draw attention to her art piece giving her viewers a sense of inclusion as they try to discover any subtle, hidden message or image in the composition. By implementing the element of space, it gives a viewer a feeling of freedom to move around.

“When my paintings are hung on the wall, it softens the hard walls behind bringing forth a calm and soothing effect to the area.”

Life is full of beautiful colors and when we paint our life with colors, we live life to the fullest! Any dull subject when painted with vibrant colors comes alive. Vibrant colors add strong emotions to paintings. They bring positive vibes, joy and happiness to the viewers. A work of art should be a joy forever. Lastly, by using contrasting bright colors, she tries to create a harmonious atmosphere in all her paintings.

This painting depicts the mysteries of a woman. She is gentle, soft and supple, a body of sexuality but do not underestimate her capabilities. She has ambitions, dreams and can bring changes to anyone’s life.
Skillfully, she twists, turns and maneuvers her way through any hurdles. The gentle flow lines demonstrate the suppleness of the female form. Her beautiful form and shape are her assets. Bright colors show that she is the light of life, a beautiful creature not to be ignored.

“My present artworks are mostly acrylic paintings as I find this medium very versatile among all the other mediums that I have experimented.”

This painting is a continuation of Her Moves I. Behind that sensuous body, she may have some hidden agendas. Anger or deceive her and she fights back.
The flow lines created here show the softness of the female body. The forms and shapes here are stronger and bigger to signify strength. The circular lines show that she is always around us. Bright colors are chosen to show the joy and happiness she brings to our lives. Adore her and she reciprocates by showering us with love and care.

Acrylic paintings remain fresh and new after years of easy maintenance. One can easily control its consistency and texture and it dries fast. Layers of paint can be added on it easily too. In her acrylic works, she applies different techniques of painting from watercolor to oil painting techniques.

This painting highlights the grace and beauty of the female form. She spreads out her wings (aura) to the world spreading her love and care to all.
She paints the world around her with vibrant colors bringing joy and happiness. The patterns and textures painted on her body maybe minor setbacks in her life but that does not bother her. They are not ugliness in her life but adornments that enhances her beauty in her life. With her around, life is complete.

Her choice of subject is usually nature. She usually does semi - abstract paintings as she like to add her personal touch to all her paintings. This allows her to show her individuality and uniqueness in her art work. By adding her own feelings and emotions in her painting, she led viewers to her world, to her origin, to her past experiences, her thoughts and how she perceives things in life.

The minute I open the front door of my house, I am greeted with this proud display of lobster claws hanging harmoniously from their tall stems. They greet me with so much joy and happiness. That inspired me to paint them. Their bright prominent orange and yellow colors light up the area and when the shine shines, they glow proudly attracting attention.
This tropical exotic plant is planted as a decorative plant in many Malaysian homes.

Her preferred subject is the human figure especially the female form. She is a body of sexuality, a beautiful mysterious creature. Physically she may appear weak and innocent, gentle and graceful but inside her is a body full of surprises. Do not judge her by her looks. She is unpredictable. She has her own personality, is ambitious, always ready to achieve her goals and improve her situation. She has her own appeals and is captivating. She is also capable and confident, trusting her own abilities and she has value. She is the life of any household!

A rare visitor to the Neem tree in front of my house is the kingfisher. They are small and brightly colored with shades of blue, orange, green, black and yellow. I have seen different species and have always wondered about its origin. Undisturbed, it stands calm among the tree branches. When it flies, the wings display beautiful colors.
Inspired, I painted this bird on canvas , one standing still on a branch with no worries and the other getting ready to fly and exhibit its colors.

“I like to add various textures in my work to add depth, balance and interest to different areas of my artwork’s surface.”

These exotic birds are Hornbills. I had the opportunity to witness them while holidaying in Sarawak. Sarawak is a state in Malaysia called ‘The Land of the Hornbills.’ Their distinct features are their horns and vibrant colored bodies. They are hard to detect in the jungle. They usually stand proud on tree branches .
In this painting I picture the trio resting. I picture the colors as I see them. In the background, they fly gracefully displaying their wide array of colors for all to see.

In her paintings, she like to portray the female movements because the capability of the female body to twist, turn, curve and maneuver her way through barriers skillfully amazes Lim. Her every move may be calculated and intentional yet she appears gentle, supple and graceful in her moves. She has mystery in her blood, magic in her touch but be warned! Regardless of her frame she may be like wild fires, spreading with a speed that cannot be drowned.

A visit to any zoo in Malaysia and you will see these brightly colored parrots. Their eyes seem to stare at you all the time. They command attention with their brightly colorful feathers nicely shaped into their bodies. When they spread their beautiful wings, you are bound to be captivated.
I picture two parrots sharing moments together, alert all the time with their bold eyes. In the background, I use gentle flow lines and strokes to show how graceful they are when they fly.

Through Lim’s Art, she wants to share her thoughts, ideas, and experiences and to make people appreciate God’s gift -the beauty of nature around us. She had gone through so many setbacks during her younger days but EXPERIENCE is a TEACHER. Failures make one stronger. Hurdles are challenges in life. Never give up and Persistence is the key to Success. It is also hoped that Lim’s artwork can change one’s thoughts, open new ideas and change a person’s perception of life from a negative one to a positive one.

These fine looking birds are Flamingos. Free to roam in ponds at the zoos, they usually group together. They stand tall, proud on their stilts with grace and splendor. Occasionally they dip their heads into the water searching for food.
I captured this couple on my canvas. The colors I use are of a softer tone to project an atmosphere of calmness and serenity. With their slender long necks, body with beautiful colors and hue and thin graceful legs, they are an epitome of beauty.

“My message to all is to love LIFE. Live life to the fullest, feel happy and free and explore the world.”
