Yellow and Black Photography Quote (1).p

“This current body of work walks the line of interest and intention to portray the complexity of emotions from one person to another and tries to capture emotional honesty.”

Badria Shamsi is an artist who is always keen to know and understand emotions and reactions towards a subject or a case. She watches and listens to people around her and tries to translate their emotions with words or colors. This current body of work walks the line of interest and intention to portray the complexity of emotions from one person to another and tries to capture emotional honesty.

"Tears fall in my heart, like the rain on the town" Paul Verlaine
In this painting the background is black and a black shade under the eye lid, to explain sadness and dark thoughts. The tears are eyes because it is coming from the heart and soul, it converts hurt and disappointment, it is a way of squeezing you heart out in weeping.

This work is an interpretation of how the artist feels and understands the emotions around her as well as how she reacts to it. It is also a presentation of the emotions in her style of contemporary art, causing interaction between the art and the audience, and delivering beautiful, yet eyes’ attention capturing towards the messages meant to be delivered.

Innocence

$350

" Innocence is like polished Armor, it adorns and defends" Robert South
I used very light colours of pink, green, blue and skin tone for the background. I also drew wide eyes and lovely lips to reflect innocence.

This series presents feelings through drawing eyes and lips, as Badria felt no need to draw all the face to express feelings, eyes are more than enough, it is the soul’s clear mirror and through them the truth is seen and cannot be hidden. The inspiration of this series developed from the following quote "When a woman is talking to you, listen to what she says with her eyes" (Victor Hugo).

“Eyes are more than enough, they are the soul’s clear mirror and through them the truth is seen and cannot be hidden.”

Badria used old paintings, watercolor or acrylic, done between 2009 to 2012, that had strong memories to her, and painted on them to transform her feelings of this series. Many of the compositions begin as choosing the correct background and the best quotes, then transforming them into a journal of personal feelings and emotions developed while working on it, as well as thoughts, and expressions.

Acrylic is the medium used with adopting gestural abstraction as one of the techniques, along with brush and palette knives to create the layers.

"You really have to look inside yourself and find your own inner strength, and say:" I am proud of what I am, and who I am, and I am just going to be myself" Mariah Carey
In this painting I used eyes and lips, cut from different paintings, with different iris colours, to reflect different ethics, backgrounds, and believes.

“Eyes reveal beauty within, they also reveal worries and suffering, Happy souls have eyes that sparkle like stars at night and reflect the rainbow colors, while worried and tired souls have pale, shady, and empty eyes.”

" Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love; time is eternity" Henry Van Dyke
I used dark grey, light grey, brown, and white for the background, and made lines horizontally to express slow time line. then I drew eyes looking everywhere, the grey colour for the iris gives deep look for the eyes, conveys long waiting.

The iris of the eye fuses with the background to make them special such as a jewel, the artist also used different colors of acrylic markers to draw a few details or write words. Backgrounds also played a role in this series. Grey or dark blue background is used to convey waiting or depression, for a peaceful mind or happiness, pastel or a more shiny background is used.

Describe your image

" Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people" Eleanor Roosevelt
In this panting, all eyes are surrounding the eye in the centre. People like to criticize, interfere, judge and express their own perspective even if not asked about it. The colours reflect different people, age, race and ethics.

The artist painted layers and layers of eyes and lips in some paintings to create a complicated background for confused feelings. Layers that deliver character and vision of life in personal matters. In most of the paintings you will see eyes in four directions; Badria deliberately drew them in different directions to give the feeling that they are looking everywhere, seeing everything.
