Yellow and Black Photography Quote (1).p

“I’ve always believed a single quote can uplift us, inspire us, and send us in a new direction with just a few simple words of wisdom.”

Anna Lau was born in Hong Kong, a fast-paced city. Since Anna was a child, she was keen on drawing, and becoming a painter was her dream. When she was studying high school, she chose arts as one of her elective subjects. After continuous efforts in her studies, she finally got an A grade in arts in the public examination.

Sunflowers
"Keep your face towards the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow. It’s what sunflowers do."
– Helen Keller
Award: “Additional Winners” award of ALL Landscape Art International Competition 2021 from Contemporary Art Gallery Online

In 2020, the world turned upside down, the pandemic threatened the health of people all over the world, many people died, lost their jobs, and even their lifestyles changed in a very short period. Negative feelings such as sadness, worry, fear, boredom, and isolation blanketed everyone around us. That is when painting helped Anna cope with those tough times.

Magical Life
"If we believe in magic, we’ll live a magical life."
– Tony Robbins
Award: Bronze Award, Camelback Gallery’s Shades of Blue 2021 International Painting Competition

Anna believes art could encourage people surrounding her. In order to bring back positive energy to people surrounding her, she started to paint during the pandemic in 2020, which was a tough year for people all over the world. However, she was determined to keep going and bring a change into the world with her art.

“As negative feelings such as sadness, worry, fear, boredom, and isolation enveloped every one of us, I began to paint.”

Beautiful landscapes and galaxies inspire Anna. She loves nature and always believes landscape paintings can take people to different lovely places. Therefore, she manages to capture the beauty of the countryside on watercolor paper. Anna classifies her paintings mainly into three different categories: Sun, Moon and Stars, and Galaxies. All the places she has painted are not only delightful scenes but are captured from beautiful angles and wonderful lights to show the natural aesthetic beauty.

"I believe exhibitions and competitions are the best ways to establish self-understanding, future development, and public awareness about the concepts of my paintings. I cherish every opportunity for the exhibition and am always looking forward to experiencing more in my art career; now I am glad that my dreams are coming true."

Anna loves the transparency of watercolor, and it is her favorite medium to appeal to the freshness and luminosity of her paintings. She always applies different transparent washes to adjust the thickness of the pigments, and this is the reason all her artworks show bright colors from the surface of the paper, which is also a classic technique in watercolor.

Make a Wish
"Make a wish on a shooting star, you must first believe it can come true!"
– Manifest

“There are complexities within the scenery, such as the skies, clouds, and stars, which make them a challenge, but this also evokes a deep sense of satisfaction every time I finish my painting.”

Same Tree
"All religions, arts, and sciences are the branches of the same tree."
– Albert Einstein
Award: Bronze Award, Camelback Gallery’s Shades of Purple 2021 International Painting Competition

Under each painting, Anna quotes encouraging words in order to remind people hard times will pass very soon, and that love could defeat the darkness. She always tries to make sure that her paintings leave behind a positive impact on the spectators in any way possible. She wants them to take motivation from her paintings and keep going.

Hope
"Where flowers bloom, so does hope."
– Janice

Anna has participated in many art exhibitions, such as the Joint Exhibition, “Dream A Little Dream”, and “I AM” Group Exhibition. She has also exhibited and shared for the “Arts Chill Out Day” in Hong Kong. She thinks all these exhibitions are amazing places for her to describe her art, and interact with art enthusiasts.

Face toward the Sunshine
"Keep your face always toward the sunshine – and shadows will fall behind you."
– Walt Whitman

Anna believes that it is not easy to create landscape paintings, especially for novice artists who wish to attain perfectionism. There are often complexities within a scenery, such as the skies, clouds, and stars, which make the paintings a challenge. However, these complexities also evoke a deep sense of satisfaction every time Anna finishes her painting.

Single Bright Moon
"Many paths lead from the root of the mountain. But at the peak, we all gaze at the single bright moon."
– Ikkyu
Award: Finalist Award, Landscape International Juried Art Competition 2021 from Art Show International

“I love nature; beautiful landscapes and galaxies are what inspire me.”

Morning Breeze
"At sunrise, the blue sky paints herself with gold colors and joyfully dances to the music of a morning breeze."
– Debasish Mridha

The different competitions she has participated in so far, helped her get more exposure and improve her self-confidence in her artistic journey. Anna got Bronze Awards from Camelback Gallery’s Shades of Purple 2021 and Camelback Gallery’s Shades of Blue 2021 International Painting Competitions and she is also one of the winners of the All Landscapes Art International Competition from Contemporary Art Gallery Online.

Soul blossom
"Every flower is a soul blossoming in nature."
– Gerard De Nerval

These artistic achievements help Anna to evaluate the contents of her painting, which she believes to be a fundamental part of being an artist. It helps her reflect on her artwork and techniques and identify areas that have any scope for improvement. It is how she always strives to create an even better artwork the next time.

Silent Delight
"The moon, like a flower in Heaven’s high bower, with silent delight, sits and smiles on the night."
– William Blake

"I realized that art in all its forms, from visual to performing, could serve as different mediums to represent the artist’s idea, emotion, and imagination.”
